Over the decade, the number of believers of Ukrainians increased by 13%

The number of Ukrainians who consider themselves believers in the past 10 years has increased by 13 percent - from 58% to 71%. But fewer of those who was not identified (from 23% to 12%) and unbelievers (from 12% to 8%).

These are the results of a poll conducted by the Razumkov Center in November 2010 and promulgated on February 8 in Kiev at a meeting of the Round Table "state-confessional relations in Ukraine, their characteristics and development trends.

According to the survey, the highest level of religiosity often residents western regions of Ukraine (89%), the lowest - in the East (66%).

However, the tendency is to eliminate the expressive shift in the center of religious life in the western region. Currently, conventional center encompasses two regions - the western and central, which is concentrated 70% of the entire network of religious communities in the country. The level of security community buildings for religious purposes is inadequate, according to Ukrinform correspondent.

As the director of the sociological service of the Razumkov Centre Andrei Bychenko, presenting the results of the study, to identify themselves Orthodox 68% of Ukrainians are Greek Catholics - 7.6%, to evangelical Christians (Protestants) - 2%. Other faiths unite less than one percent of Ukrainian people.

Meanwhile, nearly 7% of respondents consider themselves to be "just Christians", while 13% are not identified themselves to one denomination or religion, but stated that they are believers.

In general, the expert noted the tolerance of the believers of other faiths, churches and religious organizations.

At the same time, the graph of values of life of Ukrainians turned out to be religious at the end of the list. "The number of respondents who regularly attend church, that is not less than 1 time per week, amounts to 15,7%, once a month - 20.8%, with 50,4% of respondents attend church only on religious holidays" - shows Poll Razumkov Center.

Andrei Bychenko added that 56% of respondents recognize the moral authority of the Church, as a public institution.

"Development of the Church and religious networks will depend on the ability of the church conform to pastoral ministry in the modern world in general and in the circumstances of public life in Ukraine, in particular," - said the expert.
