Andrew Johnston, defender of the Christian Solidarity Worldwide, and Mansour Borgia, pastor of the Church of Iran in London, said the representative of Iran in the European Parliament (hereinafter EP) that the situation faced by evangelical churches in Iran, heavy.

The meeting was chaired by a member of the EP from the German by Barbara Lochbiler, which deals with relations between the European Parliament and Iran. She has numerous appeals for clemency for the Iranians who have been sentenced to death.

During the meeting, the pastor told the Borgias of the terrible conditions in which the Iranian authorities in 1926 found Christians because of their faith.

These are just some of the 202 Christians, which are known to be arrested and detained in Iran since June last year.

January 4 mayor of Tehran Morteza Tamadon declared that "the final blow for Christians is inevitable" and called the evangelical church "false, anomalous and corrupt sects."

Attacks on the Church contradict the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), which guarantees freedom of religion, and that Iran had also signed.

CSW has asked the EP to approve his latest report on Iran, which calls for an investigation into the legality of the death penalty by the Iranian government and accusations of apostasy against people who converted to Christianity.

"As part of the work in the region, CSW, together with partners such as Iran's church, will continue to protect the rights of Christians and other religious minorities in the country" - said Mr Johnston.

"We will do everything in our power to end the unjust arrest and imprisonment for religious beliefs, and we continue to work together with all who share this goal."
